The Beauty of the Chaise

When I saw this Eastlake Chaise (pictured below), during the inventory phase of a client's family furnishings, I thought of a Parisian socialite reclining during the 1800 neoclassical period. The history of the chaise lounge, meaning "long chair" goes back to the Egyptians in 3000 BC. Often called the "fainting chair" it has became associated with psychoanalysis in modern day. I was pleased my client wanted to restore and incorporate this beautiful piece into their newly renovated home.

BEFORE:

Concept Board for the living are using other existing items.

PROJECT: Caribbean Elegance

RECONSTRUCTION:

The upholsterer shows me the deterioration and will need to rebuild the interior before recovering.

A new back must also be applied.

FINAL RESULT:

A gorgeous chaise that melts a little history with current fabrics and modern comfort.
